A citation is used to document sources. To document sources is to give credit to the author whom you are quoting or whose ideas you are using. The following examples are for Bibliography entries.
How to cite a WEB SITE:
Author's name, last name first. "Article or Web
page title," Web site title, URL, access date,
city: producer. (city and producer are optional).
Example:
Beasley, Maurine H. " Automobiles," World Book
Online, http://worldbookonline.com, May 27,
2001, Chicago: World Book, Inc.
How to cite an ARTICLE in an ONLINE MAGAZINE:
Author's name, last name first. "Article title." Name of
Online Magazine, date of article; URL, access
date, city: producer if available.
Example:
Wertheim, Jon. "Can Hingis overcome latest
stumble?" Sports Illustrated Online, Jan. 28, 2002;
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com, Jan. 31, 2002.
How to cite a CD ROM:
"Article name." Title of CD ROM. CD-ROM. city:
producer, date.
Example:
"Automobile." Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia.
CD-ROM. Novato, CA: Grolier Corp., 2000.
How to cite a BOOK:
Author's last name first. Title of book. city: publisher,
date.
Example:
Raskin, Edith. The Pyramid of Living Things. New York:
McGraw-Hill, 1989.
How to cite a MAGAZINE ARTICLE:
Author's last name first. "Title of Article." Magazine
name, date of publication, pages of article.
Example:
Schultz, David. ANewest Sports Cars.@ Popular Science,
June 2001, pgs. 30-33.
How to cite a NEWSPAPER ARTICLE:
Author's last name first. "Article tile," Newspaper
title, publication date (month, date, year), section,
page numbers.
Example:
Santini, Jacob. "DNA helps crack cold cases," Salt
Lake Tribune, Jan. 28, 2002, sec 1, page 1.
